Selina Cartmell, artistic director of Manchester's Royal Exchange theatre, has announced a new season of productions two years after the venue faced a damaging censorship controversy.

The 2027-28 season includes a retelling of the Munich air disaster and a modern adaptation of the ancient Greek myth Phaedra set in Stockport, written by Simon Stephens. Cartmell promised to channel "the pioneering spirit of Manchester" and be "brave and fearless" in the theatre's programming.

The announcement comes as the Royal Exchange works to rebuild its reputation following the censorship row that damaged the institution's standing.
