Liverpool will open a new 100,000 sq ft Beatles museum in 2028, marking a major expansion for the city's Beatles Story, which has operated since 1990.

The museum will move from its current home at Royal Albert Dock to a new venue. Ownership will transfer to Apple Corps, the Beatles company, making it the band's first official fan experience in Liverpool.

Paul McCartney called the plans "extraordinary". Andy Burnham, mayor of Greater Manchester, described it as having "the kind of ambition I want to see more of across Britain".

The project includes a Yellow Submarine makeover of Liverpool's second-tallest building, according to the plans announced.

The Beatles Story originally opened in 1990 as an independent museum. The new venture represents a significant change in scale and official status for the attraction.
