Dame Judi Dench has renewed her criticism of the 2019 Cats film adaptation in her forthcoming memoir, calling it "a waste of goodwill and talent."
In Is It Too Late to Make a Run for It?, Dench reflects on her role as Old Deuteronomy in the universally panned adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical. She writes that while the filmmakers had "honourable intentions," the elements "didn't coalesce."
Dench's comments expand on remarks she made a year after the film's release, when she said she had not watched the movie and described the orange fur coat she wore as her costume in unflattering terms.
Director Tom Hooper has not made a film since Cats.
The 2019 adaptation faced widespread critical failure and remains a point of reference for film misfires.
