Eva Marie Saint, a towering figure of Hollywood's golden age who starred opposite Marlon Brando in "On the Waterfront" and Alfred Hitchcock in "North by Northwest", died Tuesday aged 102. A family spokesman said she died of natural causes at her home in Los Angeles.

Saint's screen career spanned six decades. She made her film debut in "On the Waterfront", the Elia Kazan-directed classic. She went on to appear in Hitchcock's celebrated thriller "North by Northwest". Later in her career, Saint played Superman's adoptive mother Martha Kent in the 2006 superhero film "Superman Returns".

Saint was among the last survivors of Hollywood's 1940s and 50s golden age.
