Max Olesker, a comedian, converted to Orthodox Judaism to marry his fiancee Eliana after meeting her at the Edinburgh Fringe. The conversion process required him to undergo adult circumcision, a procedure he describes as unwelcome. Olesker's mother had converted to a less rigorous branch of Judaism, but the Beth Din, the rabbinical court overseeing Orthodox conversion, did not recognize that as sufficient. Olesker has turned his conversion journey, including the circumcision, into material for his comedy show. He is 38 and performs the story on stage as part of his act.
