Nina and Noah have built a fulfilling sex life without penetration, after discovering that penetrative sex caused Nina pain consistent with vaginismus.

When they first tried penetration early in their relationship, it hurt Nina and caused both partners anxiety. Noah worried he had done something wrong. Nina feared he would leave her for someone who could have penetrative sex. They stopped trying and instead had conversations about their concerns, researching vaginismus together.

They built their intimate life from scratch, starting with kissing and grinding, then expanding into other forms of touch. Noah says the mechanics do not affect his pleasure. "I still feel the same degree of pleasure the way we do it," he states. Nina describes their sex life as "fun, hot and loving."

Over three years together, Nina's confidence grew as she saw Noah's genuine enjoyment. They now have more flexibility in positions than couples limited to penetrative sex, able to face each other or lie back while touching from different angles.

Noah contrasts this with previous partners, saying he had stuck to "the same formula we had seen in films" without communication. With Nina, he says, "it's created a place of comfortableness and love."

Nina finds it frustrating when people define sex only as penetration. She wishes straight couples with nonpenetrative sex were shown more in TV and film. She has not sought medical help because she does not feel anything is missing from her relationship.
