Flo & Joan turned a chance backstage discovery into their latest show. Four years ago, the comedy duo found a setlist left by indie-rock band the Feeling at Shepherd's Bush Empire. That discovery sparked a question: are Flo & Joan a proper band or just musical comedy.
Their new show, "With Feeling," answers by matching the Feeling's setlist song for song. The sisters write new material for each track, transforming rock songs into comedic numbers that showcase their wit and vocal harmonies.
The first half of the show delivers consistently. The Feeling's "Fill My Little World" becomes a neurotic meditation on consumer excess: cheap food, fast fashion, AI-generated content. "Never Be Lonely" explores what Flo & Joan describe as their "toxic co-dependency," paired with a sight gag built around Joan's trumpet playing. Other songs tackle punctuation mishaps and the case for bringing shame back into a culture of unfiltered self-expression.
The duo's strength lies in their ability to marry sharp lyrical writing with strong vocals. The Guardian review notes the pair deploy "richly wrought lyrical wit and sumptuous harmonies." Onstage banter between the sisters fills gaps between songs, adding another layer to the performance.
Flo & Joan tour the show until December 12.
