Cyndi Lauper is auctioning off decades of personal fashion and memorabilia this month at Bonhams in New York, calling the sale "A Suitcase of Memories." The two-part auction features outfits and items spanning her five-decade career, including clashing prints, tutus, statement headwear and accessories in vibrant colors.
Lauper worked as a stylist at Screaming Mimi's, an edgy vintage boutique in Manhattan, before becoming a synth-pop breakout of the 1980s. The auction brings some of that downtown aesthetic uptown. During a recent private tour of the collection, Lauper, who wore seafoam green hair, gave final notes to Bonhams staff about display details including the angle of a rainbow fan and the placement of mirror balls.
The singer has expressed views on freedom of expression and does not believe in cancel culture, according to the source material.
