After 37 years of silence, Gromit will speak for the first time in an audiobook version of his autobiography, voiced by actor Martin Freeman.
The claymation dog, famous for appearing alongside inventor Wallace in Oscar-winning films including The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, has never uttered a word on screen. Freeman, known for playing Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit film trilogy, will provide Gromit's voice for the audiobook edition releasing this month.
The autobiography marks a significant departure from Gromit's established character as a silent but expressive presence in the stop-motion films created by Aardman Animations. Freeman's casting introduces a vocal dimension to a character defined by physical comedy and wordless charm across four decades of film and television appearances.
