Miuccia Prada brought sportswear mixing to Paris fashion week on Sunday, saying she wanted to transform the "real clothes" people wear daily into high fashion.
Speaking backstage at Miu Miu's show, Prada explained her thinking. "The reality of clothing today is this mix. sportswear, casual, normal," she said. She set out to make these everyday pieces "more interesting, more rich" by combining "elements of sports with sophistication."
The collection opened with five pleated checked skirts. The first paired a matching checked blazer with bright trainers instead of traditional smart shoes like pumps or loafers. The second look added a crop top under the blazer, replacing the trainers with spiky high heels. Other looks dropped the blazer entirely and clipped the crop tops to sit just under the bust line.
The approach reflects Miu Miu's established brand identity of subverting the ordinary. By mixing sportswear with formal tailoring, Prada moved beyond typical runway abstraction into clothes that acknowledge how people actually dress on the street.
