John Galliano's debut collection for Zara launched this week, one month after the Metropolitan Museum of Art cancelled a planned exhibition dedicated to the designer.

The collection, called Re{form}, arrived as Zara released it with the tagline "authored by the couturier John Galliano. Built from our memory. Made for now."

The collaboration has drawn mixed reactions. Some industry quarters regard it as a "really big thing" for the fast fashion retailer. Others have raised concerns about Galliano's 2011 antisemitic remarks, which remain a flashpoint in the fashion world.

The Met's decision to shelve the Galliano exhibition came after public pushback. That cancellation happened just weeks before Zara made its collection available to consumers.

Galliano has worked as creative director for major fashion houses including Dior and Maison Margiela. His personal statements in 2011, made during a period he later said involved substance abuse, triggered widespread criticism and a temporary departure from his role at Dior at that time.

The Zara partnership marks a significant commercial move by the Spanish retailer into designer collaboration territory. Industry observers remain divided on whether the brand's decision to proceed with the launch strengthens or damages its reputation.
